The Abaco Barb Youth Project presents:
Inspiring Christmas Gift!
By Allie O., age 12
Hunterdon Co., New Jersey
After reading the information on the box of the Capella model she received as a Christmas gift from her father, 12 year-old Allie Overton of Hunterdon County, New Jersey decided to do some on-line research and give a public presentation about the Abaco Barbs for her county contest where about 20 more people learned about the horses. Among those was equine journalist Maggie ConRoy, who was serving as one of the judges.
After hearing Allie's presentation, ConRoy approached her editor, Lillian Shupe, Senior Contributing Editor for Horse News and a long-time model horse enthusiast. "She then came to me and asked if she could write about the horses," said Shupe. "We only cover the Mid-Atlantic region so technically they are out of our coverage area. I would have liked to have done a story about the horses when I first heard about them two years ago but I could find no local connection. Allie and Breyer became the local connection so I said go ahead!"

Allie also gave her present- ation to fellow club members in the Centaurs 4-H Club.
The article inspired by Allie's presentation can be found online in the June 2005 issue of: Hunterdon County Democrat - Horse News.
Way to go, Allie!
