Three new documentaries available at SMERI

Shajaratun Muntazirah Educational and Research Institute (SMERI) recently acquires the following three (3) documentary films:

1. Ruhullah

This is a documentary film about the life and achievements of Imam Khomeini, the Great Leader of the Islamic Revolution and Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran. As opined by many viewers, this is so far the best and most comprehensive documentary ever made about the Imam.

Produced and shown by Beirut-based Al-Manar International TV Network, the documentary consists of 10 episodes in DVD format with English subtitle and a running time of about 10 hours. Whoever is interested to watch the film is advised to spare 10-hour time before doing so because, as confessed by those who watched it from around the world, the film has an unexplained 'power' to urge the viewer to finish it in one setting.

2. Edoardo

This is a documentary film about Edoardo Agnelli (1954-2000), originally heir apparent of the Italian Fiat Conglomerate, Gianni Agnelli. Fiat is Italy’s and one of Europe’s largest carmakers. On November 15, 2000, as the badly mutilated body of Edoardo was discovered in a deep ravine on the Turin-Savone highway in Italy while his car, a Fiat Croma, was found stopped on the sidewalk, bearing no trace of theft or violence, the Italian Police concluded that he might have committed suicide.

Edoardo's nephew, John Elkann, whose father is a Jew, is the heir apparent of the Fiat magnate.

As revealed in the documentary, however, Edoardo reverted to Islam, acknowledging the wilayah of the Prophet's Ahl al-Bayt ('a), while still a student of philosophy at Princeton University, USA. He visited the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1981, meeting both Imam Khomeini and the then President and now Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatullah al-'Uzma Sayyid 'Ali Khamene'i. Shortly before his mysterious death, he was planning to go and stay in the Islamic Republic to study Islamic sciences and the language of the Qur'an, Arabic, at the Islamic Seminary in Qum. Hence, the suicide hypothesis about his death is questionable.

Produced and shown by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the documentary is in DVD format with English subtitle.

3. Endless Shore

This documentary film is about a young boy of a Hanafi family from Seestan-Baluchistan (a Sunni-dominated province in Iran) who had a pelvic bone cancer. As he was terminally ill from the medical perspective, his mother used to earnestly seek the intermediation [tawassul] of Hadrat Fatimah az-Zahra ('a). One day, he was miraculously cured after seeing in a dream both Hadrat Fatimah az-Zahra and Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah expedite his glorious advent).

After regaining his health, his family accepted the wilayah of the Prophet's Ahl al-Bayt ('a) and he went to Mashhad to study at the Islamic seminary there. In the course of his studies, he used to say that he would die as a martyr and be buried at the precinct of the holy shrine of Imam ar-Rida ('a).

As he correctly predicted, sometime later he was poisoned by those who were extremely unhappy at his family's acceptance of the wilayah of the Prophet's Ahl al-Bayt ('a) and regarded as obligatory the shedding of blood of the followers of the Holy Family ('a).

Produced and distributed by the Bright Future Institute based in Qum, Islamic Republic of Iran, the documentary is in VCD format with English subtitle.
