ABWA

Posted: July 1, 2007
With the theme “Ahl al-Bayt (‘a) as the Pivot of
Islamic Solidarity,” the Tehran-based Ahl al-Bayt
(‘a) World Assembly (ABWA) will hold its 4th
International General Assembly Session on August
18-20, 2007 (Sha‘ban 4-6, 1428 AH) at OIC Summit
Conference Hall, Tehran, Islamic Republic of
Iran.
This is announced by Shaykh Mohammad Salar, ABWA
Deputy Secretary General on International
Affairs.
This general assembly will be attended by
approximately one thousand Ahl al-Bayt (‘a)
followers, scholars, leaders, and dignitaries
from more than 140 countries around the world.
Five delegates from the Philippines, one of whom

Muntazirah Educational and Research Institute
(SMERI), are expected to participate in this
international gathering.
The said national delegates come from the cities

3rd int'l confab on Mahdism to be held in
Sha'ban
Posted: July 1, 2007
The Bright Future Institute based in Qum,
Islamic Republic of Iran will hold its 3rd
sponsored International Conference on the
Doctrine of Mahdism (Islamic Messianism) on
August 25-26, 2007 (Sha‘ban 11-12, 1428 AH) at
OIC Summit Hall in Tehran.
As
in the previous two conferences, this year’s
conference is expected to receive papers from
scholars, academics and writers of diverse
persuasions and religions around the world.
Topics to be discussed in the conference are
divided into four broad themes: (1) Semantics
and Methodology; (2) Theoretical Issues; (3) The
Islamic Government and Society during the Period
of Occultation [ghaybah];
and (4) The Islamic Government and Society
during the Advent.
Under the third category, item 3 of the
conference’s themes—“The Islamic Government and
Society during the Period of Occultation: The
Government which Paves the Way for the
Reappearance,” SMERI External Relations
Officer’s paper “Islamic Iran’s Declaration of
International Quds Day and the Advent of the
Mahdi (‘atfs)”
is accepted by the confab secretariat’s
scientific committee.
The abstract of the paper is as follows:
The victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979
not only marks the triumph of the Islamic
movement in Iran, but also heralds the dawn of a
new phase in the Palestinian struggle against
Israel. Barely a half year after the
establishment of the Islamic government, the
Great Leader of the Islamic Revolution, founder
of the Islamic Republic and magnificent
idol-breaker of the 20th
century, Imam Khomeini (may
his soul be sanctified)
made the historic consecration announcement of
the last Friday of the majestic month of
fasting, Ramadan, as “Quds Day” to signify the
global Muslims’ gesture of solidarity and
support to all the oppressed peoples of the
world as epitomized by the Palestinian people
under the Zionist regime.
This paper, which attempts to examine the role
of this declaration of the Islamic Republic of
Iran in paving the ground of the advent or
reappearance [zuhur]
of the Imam of the Time (‘atfs),
is organized through the following headings:
(a) Introduction
(b) International Quds Day
(c) International Quds Day: From Street Marches
to Cyber-Demonstrations
(d) The Cyberpower of International Quds Day
(e) International Quds Day and the Mahdi’s (‘atfs)
Advent
(f) Conclusion
Since Imam Khomeini’s consecration of the last
Friday of Ramadan as “International Quds Day” in
August 1979, in major cities from Mindanao in
the East to the United States in the West, from
Scandinavia in the North to the Horn of Africa
in the South, fasting demonstrators and marchers
chant similar slogans of sympathy to the plight
of the Palestinians and condemnation of the
crimes unabatedly perpetrated by the occupier
regime in Tel Aviv.
From the 1990s, thanks to the unprecedented
surge of the information technology as embodied
by the computer and Internet, Quds Day has found
the information superhighway (as a noteworthy
extension of the
real
streets) as a new-found locus of protests. And
in many ways access to the virtual world of the
Barlovian cyberspace has provided a remarkable
assistance to the marches, rallies and
demonstrations in the real world. In the
cyberspace, International Quds Day acquires
power in the form of an emergent social order.
Given this cyberpower of Quds Day that may even
turn into a higher social order, the goal of the
said declaration could play a pivotal role in
the advent of al-Mahdi (‘atfs)
and his confrontation in the Holy City of Quds
(Jerusalem) with the anti-Christ or ad-Dajjal—the
epitome of falsehood, injustice and
oppression—as prophesied in the corpus of
hadith
literature.
Yet another
reminder
Posted: June 1, 2007
“But Allah shall never respite a soul when its
time has come, and Allah is well aware of what
you do.” (Qur’an 63:11)
The death of Brother Ahmad Salem Castro in a
motorcycle accident along Ampatuan highway on
May 19, 2007 serves as another reminder.
The mishap reminds us
Muntazirin
in the country, particularly in
Maguindanao-Cotabato region, that death is a
guest that will surely visit each of us sooner
or later. So, everybody is supposed to prepare
for the surprise arrival of his or her own
visitor.
As
the Messenger of Allah (s)
said, the wisest among the faithful (mu’minin)
is he who remembers death more than others and
has prepared himself/herself for it (more than
others). (Bihar
al-Anwar,
vol. 6, p. 126)
When asked on the best way to prepare for death,
the Commander of the Faithful (‘a)
said: “One should fulfill the obligatory acts,
abstain from the forbidden, and exhibit exalted
morals. Then, one should not be concerned
whether he falls upon death or death falls upon
him.” (Bihar
al-Anwar,
vol. 6, p. 126)
It
can be noticed from this reply of Imam ‘Ali (‘a)
that mere love and devotion to the Holy Apostle
(s)
and his Household (‘a)
is not an enough preparation for the coming of
the impending visit. Rather, the Imam (’a)
hinted in his saying that this love and devotion
must be manifested in action by “fulfilling the
obligatory acts, abstaining from the forbidden,
and exhibiting exalted morals”.
In
other words, in the school of the
Ahl al-Bayt
(‘a)
there is no room for justification of the
alleged separation of
tariqah
and
shari‘ah,
‘irfan
and
fiqh,
or spirituality and ritualism.
As
stressed by Imam Khomeini in his
Adab as-Salat,
any speculative interpretation (tafsir
bi’r-rayy)
suggesting that it is not important to perform
the five daily obligatory prayers on ‘mystical
grounds’ has no religious basis at all.
As part of this ‘preparation for death’, the
Seminar-Workshop Department of SMERI Education
Bureau held a one-day Workshop on
Ahkam al-Amwat—covering
ritual acts ranging from before death to after
burial—on May 1, 2006 on the martyrdom
anniversary of Shahid Murtada Mutahhari.
In
view of the great emphasis of Islam on writing
last will and testament (wasiyyah)
and as a sequel to this workshop, SMERI will
also hold Seminar on
Wasiyyah
in the future,
insha’ Allah.

SMERI releases Shaykh Deedat's "A Nation Reborn"
video production
Posted: February 12, 2007
External Bureau of Shajaratun Muntazirah
Educational and Research Institute (SMERI)
releases yesterday its
third video presentation, “A Nation Reborn,”
which is the visual version of the speech by the late Shaykh Ahmed Deedat, a world renowned Muslim
scholar of comparative religion from South
Africa, made on March 3, 1982 following his
trip to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In explaining the noble verse of
the Qur’an, “And
if you turn away (from Islam and the obedience
of Allah), He will substitute you for some other
people, and they will not be like you,” (Surah
Muhammad
47:38)
Shaykh Deedat argues that the Iranians who
brought to victory the first Islamic revolution
of the contemporary time are the replacement of
the former torch-bearers of Islam in the world,
as it had happened to the former chosen peoples
of God.
This presentation is expected to be laudable to
the local Muslims as this speech is unknown to
almost all of them in spite of “Deedat” being a
household name for them.
Sixty-three minutes “A Nation Reborn” is
released on February 11, 2007 on the 28th
anniversary celebration of the victory of the
Islamic Revolution in Iran.

copies
of this video presentation is

SMERI released
last month its first two video productions
entitled, "The Land of Revelation" and "Maguindanao's
Momentous Sacrifice on the Feast of Sacrifice".
