| Goku is one of an alien race called the Saiyans. His space ship fell to Earth when he was only a baby, and ever since he has protected the Earth with his unusual strength. |
| Gohan is Goku's oldest son. He is half Saiyan, half Human. He developed unusual powers at a very young age. He later marries Videl, and has a little girl, Pan. |
| Krillin has been Goku's friend from a very young age. Goku grew, and Krllin didn't. Later, he marries Android 18, has a little girl, and grows hair. |
| Piccolo was originally evil, but he later changes his ways and becomes good. His life force is connected Kami's (the Guardian of the Earth), but before facing Cell they finally fuse back together. |
| Tien is another one of Goku's old friends that started off evil. Despite the 3-eye thing, he is in fact human. His signature move is the solar flare. |
| Once again, Yamcha is originally an evil character from Dragonball who switched sides. Bulma had a crush on him for a very long time, but suddenly that ended. |
| Vegeta, also a Saiyan, is Goku's fiercest rival, and was formerly a terrible villian working for the mighty Frieza. Eventually, over an extremely long period of time, he and Goku became good friends. |
| Raditz is Goku's evil brother who appears in the first episode of Dragonball Z. He is killed by Piccolo, but Goku is also killed at the same time. |
| King Kai lives on a miniature planet in the Other World (where dead people go). He trained Goku after the fight with Raditz and then Goku came back to life because of the Dragonballs. |
