Author's notes/intro:
The fic that I had to write. Originally planned as a three part story, but then I got stuck on part 1, which ended up as ten chapters instead.
This is supposed to be a prequel to Arslan. ^^;; I based the entire thing on my viewing of the Arslan anime (subbed version), so the background of characters were made up. I didn't realize until I was writing chapter 9 that arslansenki.net had the background of the characters from the manga on their site already, but by then it was too late. So I guess you can think of this as a Arslan anime prequel a/u.
I also didn't know the ages of them in the anime, except Arslan, so in my mind, Narcasse and Darun are both around 28 by the time of the first anime movie.

Titles of the chapters and this fic were all taken from the same poem by my favorite American poet, Edgar Allen Poe's [Alone].
Name spellings reflect the new spelling of the characters. All except for the countries, which I'm too used to seeing spelled the old way.
Version 2 has a few changes different from the original version: mostly grammar and awkward phrasing, though Chapter 9's dialogue and ending changed slightly. The only people who have ever read version 1 in the net world was my beta reader, Shrenee (who also helped beta chapter 2 in version 2) and the judges of the Yaoi Arslan ML contest. So...um...apologies to those who have read vers 1 for the grammar mistakes that stood out. I didn't notice them when I was submitted the fic because I sent it in the day I finished the last chapter, 10 mins before the deadline for the contest.
