Pneumatic Gun
Visit my home page to read about Spud Fest '06
You will need:
1......1' to 2' piece of 3" PVC pipe
1......3" PVC end cap
1......3" to 1.5" PCV reducer (also called a bushing)
2......1.5" to 1" PVC reducers
1......1" PVC "Glue in" ball valve (no threads, just glues directly onto pipe)
1......3' to 4' piece of 1.5" PCV pipe
1......tubeless tire replacement valve (from auto parts store)
1......can of PVC pipe cement
1......can of PVC primer
1......bag of spuds
dowel as long as 1.5" pipe
Tools:
Saw to cut pipe
Drill with bit smaller than diameter of tire valve
File or grinder
Procedure:
ALWAYS USE PRIMER FIRST!!!  or it will leak
Step 1.
Drill a hole in the center of the 3" cap a little bit smaller than the diameter of the tire valve and force it through.
(it should fit very tight)
Step 2.
Glue the cap onto one end of the 3" pipe.
Step 3.
Glue the 3" to 1 1/2"reducer to the other end of the 3" pipe.
Step 4.
Glue the 1 1/2" to 1" reducer into the 1.1/2" to 3" reducer.(put a piece of 1 1/2" pvc in between the reducers, it only needs to be a few inches long).
Step 5.
Glue a small piece of 1" pvc into the 1 1/2" to 1" reducer.(It only needs to be a few inches long).
Step 6.
Glue the 1" ball valve onto the 1" pipe.
Step 7.
Glue another small piece of 1" pvc into the 1 1/2" to 1" reducer.(It only needs to be a few inches long).
Step 8.
Glue a 1 1/2" to 1" reducer onto the 1"pvc pipe.
Step 9.
Glue a 1 1/2" Female Coupling onto the 1 1/2" to 1" reducer
Step 10.
Glue a 1 1/2" Male Coupling to a 3' to 4'  piece of 1 1/2" pvc pipe. You can also glue a 1 1/2" Male Coupling to any size pvc pipe you'd like. This will give you interchangable barrels of many sizes.
The longer the barrel the better it will be.
Step 11.
Bevel the outside edge of the end of the barrel until it is sharp.
(to cut the potato to size as you push it through)
TIP 1:Glueing
When gluing the pipes together be sure to first USE PRIMER on the pipe, otherwise it WILL leak. If you are using PVC pipe, use PVC glue! If you are using ABS pipe, use ABS glue! Also do not mix types of pipe, make your gun completely out of ABS or PVC. I suggest not useing ABS pipe, It's dangerous and it when it burst it will break into a bunch of sharp pieces that will stick into you. Don't use the gun right away, let it set for at least a day or it could blow apart. (this is the hardest part!) You must use a ball valve and not a gate valve. A ball valve only needs to be turned about a half turn to be all the way open, while a gate valve requires several turns to completely open. The longer it takes for the valve to open, the less distance your potato will go. You can use whatever lengths of pipe you want. If you are unsure of what to use, go by what is here.
TIP2: Size
Remember: With spud guns, bigger isn't always better. If your chamber is to big then your compressor won't be able to pack it with enough air.
TIP3: Ammo
You can cut a 6" to 8" piece of pvc pipe that's just a little thinner that your barrel and duct tape a lead fishing weight onto the end. You want it to fit tightly in your barrel. The Tighter the better.
Combustion Gun
In order to make a combustion gun just remove the two 1 1/2" to 1" reducers and everything in between. Then extend the barrel about a foot or so. And replace the end cap with a 3" male and female screw on lid. Drill a small hole in the 3" PVC end cap and put a grill lighter in it for an igniter.
Spud gun can be dangerous! So make and play with them at your own risk. I ain't responsible for anything that some dumb ass does to him/her self or anyone else.
