Protecting your bulbs against the squirrels

- Stake sections of chicken wire over the planting areas
- Spray your bulbs (before planting) or the ground with Ro-Pel. This makes the bulbs bitter.
- Spread human or dog hair, moth flakes or bloodmeal fertilizer on the ground.
- Never use bonemeal. It attracts squirrels.
- Plant narcissus. Squirrels don't like them.
- Feed the squirrels to keep them away from your bulbs.

- According to Margaret Kirkman from Brantford, Ontario, gardeners who have problems with the squirrels eating their bulbs, etc., should try using rabbit pellets from the pet store. Dissolve a handful of pellets in water and pour the mixture over the area where bulbs are planted. I have used this method for years with good results.
