1. Repetition
The teacher has students repeat (for practice) after...
  a) The teacher has talked, modeled, explained, read, given directions, etc.
  b) A student has talked, explained, read, etc.
  c) Students have listened to an audio sample or viewed a video

2. Comprehension Checks
The teacher does comprehension checks after the teacher or students have talked, modeled, explained, read, given directions, done group/pair work by
  a) Asking students questions
  b) Asking students to
summarize
  c) Having the students ask each other questions

3. Asking & Answering Questions
Students practice asking (and answering) questions after the teacher's model
  a)  T-S1-S2-T or
TSST
  b) The teacher gives an exact
model
  c) The teacher
creates a question

4. Asking Questions Spontaneously
Students ask questions spontaneously (interacts)
This is the goal for all classes.
When the students begin to ask questions without being "pushed," one of the main objectives of the Communicative Language Teaching approach has been attained.
All proficiency levels can reach this goal.

5. Error Correction
The teacher corrects students errors (e.g., grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, comprehension)
  a) The teacher reflects the correct response (and continues) or
  b) The teacher models the correct respons and student(s) repeat

6. Assistance
The teacher helps or assists a student when the student struggles, falters, hesitates, shows confusion, looks for help, etc: "Please helpe me," putting the words in the student's mouth, modeling with choral repetition, then having the student try again.
