| Sonny Bill Williams |
| NRL |
| Labelled "the next big thing" 18 year old Sonny Bill Williams weighs 105 kgs and stands 191 cm. The centre/second rower is causing a huge stir in the NRL. Laurie Daley rates him big time with his speed, terrific ball skills and offloads like Ali, but Sonny aint fussed with the hype. He continues to get huge raps from he Sydney media and is a key strike weapon off the Canterbury Bulldogs bench. Born in Auckland from the Marist club he went to Sydney at 15 and played with the Bulldogs Juniors, SG Ball grade and the Junior Kiwis two years ago. He was in the Bulldogs team that beat the Warriors 24-18 in Wellington in round 6. Williams subsequently gained selection in the Kiwi squad that lost 37-10 to the Aussies on 23 April 2004 at Newcastle He had an excellent Kiwi debut. Another Kiwi doing big things in the NRL the Bulldogs want to sign him long term. |

| Auckland-born Karmichael Hunt 17, moved to Brisbane five years ago and has enjoyed an outstanding debut season for the Brisbane Broncos. At 1.86m height & 86kg he's had a sensational year playing 20 games for the Broncos so far, scoring 15 tries and leading the club's 2004 try scoring list . He just gets better every week displaying confidence, strength and skill despite being targeted by opposing teams. Recently against the Knights he was twice left groggy from high tackles in Brisbane 16-12 win. Wayne Bennett has seen the best of the best in his 17 years as the Bronco's coach. He is guarded about his fullback and on the issue of player targeting, said Hunt was a victim of his own courage with the New Zealand-born star refusing to stay on the ground and give video referees the chance to intervene. "I just can't believe his toughness," said Bennett. Hunt was recently engaged by the Bulldogs and Kiwi centre Sonny Bill William's, himself a newcomer to the NRL like Hunt, in a bitter argument over his refusal to play for the Kiwis in the first 2004 test against Australia. Karmichaels dream was always to play State Of Origin for Queensland. Queensland made me, Australia made me and so far they have taught me the game of football, that makes me a Queenslander and also makes me an Australian New Zealand is just my pride" said the 17 Year old star. There are heaps of New Zealanders playing for NRL clubs such as Jamaal Lolesi, Asotasi, Maiava & Sonny Bill (Dogs), Kylie Leuluai & Sam Harris (Manly), Paul Rauhihi (Cowboys), Vaeliki & Nathan Cayless (Eels) & brother Jason & Tupou (Roosters), Kidwell & Chan (Storm), Benji Marshall (Wests) and many others. Hunt stands out as a good shot for the 2004 NRL rookie of the year. |

| Warriors sign off 2004 ..... Its all over they're done. After the highs of 2001, the 2002 grand final and a great year in 2003 they crashed out finishing 14 of 15 in the regular season. They signed off with a resounding 54-10 defeat to the Canterbury Bulldogs. The Warriors will get back into fitness training in October in preparation for 2005. They will be bolstered by recruits Rueben Wiki, Steve Price and coaching staff Ivan Cleary and Kevin Campion who will assist head coach Tony Kemp. |

Rd 26 Warriors 10 v Canterbury Bulldogs 54 Sunday 5 September Ericsson Stadium Auckland Crowd 9930 Down 28-6 at halftime this match seemed like it had been lost mentally long before kickoff infront of 10,000 fans at Ericsson Stadium. After the Raiders delivered the wooden spoon to the South Sydney Rabbitohs by thumping them 62-22 last night their was no desire, no aspiration or purpose to the Warriors dismal end of year performance. Sadly thats the way it panned out as the Bulldogs took them to pieces 54-10. Effectively the Warriors misery served as a fine tuning exercise for the Dogs muscle machine in preparation for the next week's playoffs against the North Queensland Cowboys. The Dogs steamroling pack of Ryan, captain Steve Price, Mason and Sonny Bill Williams set the platform for the midfield strikepower of Willy Tonga, Harris, Mazri, Patten and Utai who combined to dominate their opposites. Utai scored 4 of the Dogs 10 tries. This team had class, speed and power all over the field. Only a handful of Warriors deserve a mention with 19 year old rookie Louis Anderson standing out alongside Jerome Ropati and Brent Webb. | Benji Marshall |
| NRL |
| In August 2004 Benji Marshall declared his loyalty to the Wests Tigers by extending his contract to 2006.
Despite being out with a shoulder injury 19 year old Marshall from Whakatane shapes up as a big time talent in the NRL.
"I didn't want to make a decision while I was injured and depressed but I just came to the conclusion I was happy at the Wests Tigers," Marshall said.
"They have done a lot for me. The club brought me down from school [on the Gold Coast] and have looked after me. "I wanted to show a bit of loyalty back to them. "I enjoy playing next to Scott Prince. He has taught me a lot and I want to play five-eighth next to him. (coach) Tim Sheens has also been great. Every time I speak to Tim I feel as though I am learning something about rugby league." Sheens said his club was relieved to have secured Marshall's future. "Extending Benji's contract gives us the opportunity to further develop his talent ... and ensure he reaches his full potential," Sheens said. Marshall was excited at his club's future. |

| The standout five-eighth in New Zealand's 2003 Bartercard competiton for cup winners Marist-Richmond, Jerome Ropati went to Auckland's St Pauls College who played in the Australian schools competitionfinals. A 2002 Junior Kiwi, Ropati 182cm and 93 kg debuted for the Warriors in 2003 against the Roosters.
The 20 year old had a big game at five-eighth against Penrith at Albany in a 2004 pre-season game, then broke his jaw against the Panthers in round three spending 10 weeks on the sideline. On return he was used as a wing, centre and Warriors Most Valuable Player against the Eels, and stand off against the Rabbitohs in Round 19. "I'm happy to get a run, I don't care where," he said. Growing in confidence with every game he has a clever kicking game, good off-loads and a smart attacking game. "I want to be at the Warriors long term" says Ropati who looks set to contest the five-eighth position head to head with the immensely talented Lance Hohaia and 2005 Warriors recruit Nathan Fien. |
