Coping Tips From A Dan Parent
Don't try to fight it. Eventually, you'll see that your child will become worse if you attempt to squash his fixation. See the funny side. There really is one.
Hope that the person your child is enamored with understands. That helps.
Use the Dan Advantage whenever possible. An example would be, " Stop kissing the t.v. I just Windexed or I'll turn it off and you won't see Dan any more today." Or, "Take one more step on my clean kitchen floor with those muddy shoes and I swear 'Dan' will go bye-bye forever!" (Uh, the toy, not the man.)
Start referring to the toy your child named "Dan" as if he were real.; If you encourage "Dan" to do something, like, say, get a bath, your child will immediately follow.
Always make room for FP Dan in the diaper bag.
Do not listen to other people's well-meaning advice as to how to stop your child from being a Dan Fan. Believe me, I have exhuasted every avenue and Matthew is still a Dan Fan.
Learn now that your child will have a wild fascination with getting FP Dan dirty with everything from food, juice, sand, mud, and many other gross things. Just clean the toy off and hand him back.
