Timeline
1960. Birth of Sirius Black.
196?. Birth of Regulus Black, Sirius's brother.
1971. Sirius enters Hogwarts. He's sorted into Gryffindor and becames friend with James Potter, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, while hates Severus Snape.
197?. Sirius, James, Remus and Peter form the Marauders. They start working on the Animagus transformation.
197?. Sirius tries to kill (?) Snape, but James saves him.
1975. Sirius becomes an Animagus - a big, black dog. At every full moon, when Remus becomes a werewolf, the Marauders explore the grounds. They write the Marauders Map.
1976. Sirius runs away from home and goes to live at James's. His mother disowns him as a son and deletes his name from the tapestry.
1977. Sirius inhereits some money from and uncle and goes to live in a place of his own.
1978. He leaves Hogwarts and stands as Best Man at James's wedding with Lily Evans. Joins the Order of the Phoenix together with his friends and is active in the war against Voldemort and the Death Eaters.
1980. Birth of Harry Potter. Sirius is named godfather and guardian of the boy.
1981. The Potters are in danger because one of their group is a spy. They decide to use the Fidelius Charm and choose Sirius as their Secret Keeper, but at the last moment Sirius himself suggests to use Peter Pettigrew.
On Halloween night Sirius goes to Godric's Hollow and finds the house in ruins and the bodies of Lily and James. Hagrid meets him there and Sirius suggests that he should take custody of Harry, but Hagrid refuses and takes the boy to Privet Drive.
Sirius tracks down Peter and corners him in a Muggle street. Peter screams that Sirius had killed James and Lily, then sets off an explosion, killing thirteen passing Muggles. He cuts his finger and escapes as a rat. Sirius is accused of the death of the Potters and sent to Azkaban without trial.
1993. Sirius sees a photo of Peter/Wormtail on the Daily Prophet and in the article he finds that the boy on whose shoulder the rat was would be returning to Hogwarts for the school year, where Harry was.
Sirius manages to turn into a dog and one night he slips past his guards and swims to the mainland. He travels to Surrey and he sees his godson in Magnolia Crescent, then heads north to Hogwarts.
With the help of Crookshanks, Hermione's cat, he breaks into the castle twice, once ripping the Fat Lady's picture and once slashing the hangings of Ron's bed with a knife.
At last Remus, Snape, Harry, Ron and Hermione meet him in the Shrieking Shack and Sirius tells them the true story. Peter escapes and Sirius is captured by Snape, who didn't saw Pettigrew because he was k.o.
Harry and Hermione use the time-turner to rescue him and Buckbeak the Hippogriff, and they escape together.
1994. He returns to Britain when Harry writes him that his scar is hurting, and follows him at Hogwarts disguised as a dog, hiding in the mountains with Buckbeak. After Voldemort's return, Dumbledore sends him to Remus's, to contact the 'old crowd' for the coming battle.
1995. Sirius's house at 12, Grimmauld Place is used as headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix. He is virtually trapped in the house for months.
1996. When he heards that Harry and some friends are trapped by some Death Eaters in the Department of Mysteries, he runs there with Remus and some other members of the Order. He duels with his cousin Bellatrix near the end of the battle and he's hit in the chest by one of her spells. His body fells through a mysterious arch and could not be recovered.
