Tony Curtis

An exhaustive list of Tony's publications would also be exhausting, but his latest collection of poems is Crossing Over, from Seren, Floors 1 & 2, 38-40 Nolton Street Bridgend,CF31 3BN, or email. Seren also have a web site under construction.

His book Welsh Artists Talking, also from Seren, was launched in the National Museum of Wales in October 2000, and a book came out in Italy, Poesie Scelte.

Tony also runs an online gallery of art from Wales.



Christopher Meredith

Latest collection, The Meaning of Flight from Seren.

Latest novel Sidereal Time, from Seren. A week in the life of a disillusioned teacher and the bright pupil who might restore her enthusiasm, if she ever had time to listen to him.

Chris's other novels are Shifts, drawing on his experiences in the steel industry, and Griffri, about a mediaeval poet in a violent and confusing world he never understands.

Chris has also published a translation into English of Mihangel Morgan's novel Melog - again from Seren. "A cracking read. ...this extraordinary book shames us into realising that the best writers in Britain don't necessarily work in English." - Dan Rhodes in The Observer

A new departure is an illustrated children's book in Welsh, Nadolig Bob Dydd, from Gomer Press, Llandysul, Ceredigion. His latest collection of poems is The Meaning of Flight (Seren). Sheenagh Pugh

Latest collection of poems is Long-Haul Travellers, from Seren. Of her previous collections, The Movement of Bodies was a PBS recommendation and The Beautiful Lie, also from Seren, was shortlisted for the Whitbread Poetry Prize in 2000. There are umpteen others but the only ones she wants to remember are Stonelight, Id's Hospit and Sing for the Taxman, also from Seren.

She has written two novels, Folk Music from Seren and Kirstie's Witnesses, from the Shetland Publishing Company. More information on that, and reviews, on SPC's website.

Philip Gross



Philip Gross is a poet, novelist and playwright. He has published six books with Bloodaxe, including The Water Table (2009), The Egg of Zero (2006), Mappa Mundi (2003) and Changes of Address: Poems 1980-1998 (2001)

He has also published poetry for young people, including Manifold Manor, The All Nite Café (winner of the Signal Award) and Scratch City (Faber). Novels for young people include Going for Stone and The Lastling (OUP Poets). His latest novel for young people is The Storm Garden, "a gripping and intriguing novel about lies, truth, love and whether you can every really know anybody." (OUP). He also writes plays, radio short stories and poem-documentaries.

Gillian Clarke

Information on Gillian's many publications can be found on her website and on the website of her publisher Carcanet. Her publications with them include the forthcoming titles At the Source and A Recipe for Water, as well as Collected Poems, Five Fields and Making Beds for the Dead. There is also a recent collection of poems for children, The Animal Wall.

Gilllian Clarke was the inaugural Capital Poet for Cardiff 2005-6 and in 2008 was appointed National Poet of Wales.



Stephen Knight

Two poetry collections, both from Bloodaxe, Flowering Limbs, which was a Poetry Book Society choice, and Dream City Cinema, which contains the poem with which he won the National Poetry Competition. More information on the Bloodaxe website.

He has also published a pamphlet of poems, The Sandfields Baudelaire, with Smith Doorstop, and a novel, Mr Schnitzel, with Viking/Penguin. More information on the Penguin website. Mr Schnitzel has been named the Arts Council of Wales Welsh Book of the Year for 2001.




Catherine Merriman

Five novels and three collections of short stories (plus others in mags and anthologies). Her third short story collection, Getting A Life, has just come out from Honno. Latest novels: Broken Glass (1998 Pan Macmillan) is about cancer, insecurity, and wanting your mother. Brotherhood (Parthian) is about Welsh bikers. Catherine won the Ruth Hadden Memorial Award in 1992 for her first novel Leaving the Light On (Gollancz/Pan) which is about dangerous domestic power games. "One of the strongest first novels of recent years" - Daily Telegraph.

Other novels are Fatal Observations (Gollancz/Pan - violence from a female perspective) and State of Desire (Macmillan/Pan - opencasting, bereavement and female sexuality).

Catherine's first collection of short stories Silly Mothers (Honno) was shortlisted for the 1992 Welsh Book of the Year. Her collection Of Sons and Stars was described as "A complete delight" - Kaleidoscope, Radio 4.

'Most recently, she has edited the autobiographical collection 'Laughing Not Laughing' (Honno, 2004) which is a volume of writings on women's experiences of sex.'
