ABOVE: The BMW GTP IMSA car

This car was constructed by March Engineering in Bicester, England but the body was designed and built by McLaren. The car had a BMW M12/14 engine and was campaigned as a two-car effort in the IMSA GTP class in 1985 and 1986. The drivers were David Hobbs, John Andretti, Davy Jones and John Watson

The McLaren-BMW F1 GTR

Whilst not strictly being a works-built BMW racing car, the F1 GTR was powered by a V12 6000cc BMW engine designated 'type S70/2' which was designed and manufactured exclusively for the supercar.

With full factory backing, the Schnitzer team ran F1 GTRs in 1996 and 1997, in classic BMW M-Sport colours
