This car was built by BMW and Schnitzer for the 2001 ALMS series in America. It incorporated a purpose-built 4.0 litre V8 engine, giving enough performance to beat the Porsche 911 GTR3. Type approval was obtained by the production of limited edition road car (or 'homolgation special') based on the racing version. The car raced only for one season in the US but was entered into several European endurance events between 2003 and 2005. |
