The BMW M1 Procar

The BMW Procar series was run alongside F1 in 1979. Around 15 to 20 cars competed and 5 of the indentically prepared cars were driven by the 5 fastest qualifying drivers from the accompanying Grand Prix

 


ABOVE: Andy Warhol's M1 'Art Car'. The car was hand-painted by Warhol who used blurring lines and colours to capture the image of speed pictorially. The car appeared at Le Mans in 1979.


ABOVE: Hans Stuck & Hans Heyer's Group 5 silhouette version of the M1. This was constructed by Sauber (of F1 fame) and raced in the DRM and World Championship

BELOW: March Engineering in Bicester - who formed a close association with BMW Motorsport in the 1970s and 1980s - produced this Group 6 version of the M1.
