Racing car design is not supposed to be about aesthetics - it is an objective engineering exercise which aims to produce a vehicle as fast, drivable and reliable as is humanly possible within the ever shifting framework of motorsport regulations.

However, now and again the engineers, designers and constructors also triumph in building a certain beauty and elegance into their machines.

This website features a selection of racing cars in which form and function seem to have conspired to create an enduring aesthetic appeal. The volume of 'Race Sim' creators and model companies that are producing scaled down or 'virtual' renderings of them are testament to that appeal!

Hopefully, Great Racing Cars will give gamers and model collectors a chance to find out more about these cars & appreciate the efforts of the engineers who created them. The images also give an opportunity to see the cars as they were in their racing heyday.

On the Homepage you will find a list of cars that are being featured. Next to the cars you will see orange and green links.

The orange links lead to a DATABASE feature for each car which includes an extensively researched story about the machine and the engineers and constructors that designed and built them. Also, usually included are detailed technical specifications and a race history alongside various images of the cars in their heyday.

The green links lead to a seperate GALLERY for each car featuring even more photographs and images which have been obtained from many different sources. To date, a few of the cars have only a DATABASE or a GALLERY.
