The following year, even more evolution took place emerging in the form of the 935/77 model. The fenders had been further enhanced with the addition of long fins cowling the two rear view mirrors. At the back of the car was an entirely new glass fibre tail section covering the standard body. This included an aerofoil stretching up to the maximum overhang allowed by the rules. Aerodynamically, the 935/77 was even more of an improvement on the 1976 car producing the same downforce with 10% less drag.

Three of the cars were produced bearing the chassis numbers 935/77.003 to 935/77.005 and the factory run, Martini-sponsored machines again trounced all-comers. Three straight victories at Silverstone, Watkins Glen and Mosport secured yet another World Championship title. Away from the World Manufacturers championship Porsche was also dominating the prestigious DRM (German National series). Owing to the success of the 935, the Division 1 class (over 2 litres) had become a more or less one-make affair. BMW and Ford simply gave up trying to compete with Porsche and concentrated on the Division 2 (up to 2 litres) category. Because of this dominance, the press began to belittle Porsche's achievement pointing out that with no competition, all Porsche had to do was simply turn up. The last straw for the Stuttgart management came when a German television company announced that it would only cover the Division 2 race at the Norisring meeting on July 3rd. After some discussion between Dr. Fuhrmann (Porsche's chairman) and the engineers Norbert Singer and Hans Mezger, an order was placed to develop a baby 935 to take part in the Norisring 2 litre division race. The order was signed on April 5th, leaving under three months to build the car. In this time a turbocharged version of the 1.4 litre 911 engine was to be developed and 540 lbs of weight had to come off the car. In order to achieve the weight target, every part of the cars' structure was considered and new front and rear subframes in lightweight tubular aluminium were created and bolted to the main body. After many long days and nights, the Baby 2 litre car (henceforth given the title 935/2.0), was completed on June 30th - just in time for loading up and transporting to the Norisring.
