The freedom fighters stand in Knothole (still three hours into the future) and wonder if Sonic will return for his birthday. Meanwhile Sonic, Tails, and Nate walk around Mobotropolis in cloaks to remain hidden so that the Mobians will not be scared by the fact that Nate is an overlander (i.e. human). Sonic watches everyone prepare for a party, and he knows that it is a surprise for him.

Meanwhile in space, meteors fly past a satellite. A metallic hand presses a button, and the satellite moves the meteors.

At the same time, Snively and the escaped prisoners sit at a table on West Robotropolis, located on Big Kahuna Island. Drago asks Snively what they will do with Warlord Kodos and Arachnis, who are still crystallized. Nack suggests that they forget about the two and focus on attacking Mobotropolis. A fight breaks out as the escapees argue about how they should attack (by sneaking, flying, etc). Suddenly an axe falls, and Kodos and Arachnis appear to be back to normal.

As the freedom fighters walk in the Great Forest, King Acorn contacts Sally via Nicole. King Acorn explains that someone special from the past has returned and there will be a party to honor him. Once the transmission is finished, the freedom fighters run toward Mobotropolis, believing that Sonic has returned.

As Sonic, Tails, and Nate walk through the crowd, Rosie escorts some children who want to go see a parade. Tails begins to fly, and Sonic quickly pulls him to the ground to remain undercover. Rosie recognizes their voices and calls out toward Sonic and Tails. Suddenly meteorites fall to the ground, destroying buildings and endangering the lives of everyone. Sonic, Tails, and the freedom fighters spring to action and begin to help the Mobians. Sally uses Nicole to analyze the situation. Nicole explains that the asteroids were supposed to pass by Mobius, but not close enough as to get pulled in by gravity. Sally looks up and sees a cloaked figure rushing around to help. She calls out to Sonic, who turns around only to find a meteor crashing toward Sally's head. Sonic picks up Sally and runs her to safety. The freedom fighters rejoice that Sonic and Tails have returned, and then they lay eyes on Nate. Sonic introduces Nate to the freedom fighters. Sally comments that her father said Sonic was returning, and Sonic says that he has not seen her father. Rotor realizes that the king was referring to someone else.

The freedom fighters appear in the throne room, and Sally tells her father that Sonic has returned. King Acorn says that there is something more important, and a figure appears from the far end of the throne room. King Acorn presents his son, Prince Elias Acorn, who was once smuggled to the Floating Island with Queen Alicia, and now both have returned. As everyone stares at Elias, Geoffrey St. John pulls back Nate's hood and claims that the overlander was trying to kill the king. Sonic protests, and King Acorn informs Geoffrey that Nate was once an ally to the kingdom. King Acorn greets "Uncle Nate" with a hug as Sonic is upset about his birthday celebration. Later, the freedom fighters celebrate Sonic's 16th birthday.

"Lupe and the Wolfpack"
Part 2
Written, Inked and Colored by Ken Penders
Illustrated by Sam Maxwell
Lettered by Jeff Powell
Edited by J.F. Gabrie

One by one the wolfpack exits the raft and climbs up a ladder to reach the dock. The rain continues to pour as Lupe tells everyone that they will find a place to camp. Diablo tries to let the air out of the raft so that they can use it later on, but Canus tells him to leave it behind. The wolfpack continues to journey onward and begins to explore an abandoned city. A sound is heard from nearby, and the wolfpack go into a building to investigate the noise. Lupe grabs a figure and realizes that it is a red-headed little girl. The girl remains silent as Lupe says that they cannot abandon her without knowing someone will take care of her. Reynard says they should get rid of the girl, and suddenly a blond girl tries to knock Reynard over. Lupe orders Reynard not to hurt the child and asks the child if she has a name. The blond girl says that her name is Aerial and her sister is Athena, who does not speak. The girls' parents and everyone are "gone." Lupe orders Reynard to gather the wolfpack while she thinks about their next course of action.

(Note: the wolfpack also consists of Leeta and Lyco, who were not mentioned in this summary.)
