Part One: Doctor Quack makes
his way to Intensive Care while Sonic and Tails follow him. Rotor and Sally
are already in the room, and Doctor Quack greets Sally, bringing up the fact that
he delivered her. Sonic is surprised that Rotor is there, so Doctor Quack
explains that Rotor is helping with the Cell Regenerator, a device created to
stop King Acorn from crystallizing. The crystallizing is a side effect from
something King Acorn was exposed to in the Zone of Silence. Doctor Quack
suggested returning the king to the Zone of Silence, but Sally refused.
After putting on protective eyewear, Doctor Quack orders Rotor to activate the
Cell Regenerator. Once it is finished, Rotor can tell that nothing has changed.
Doctor Quack says they must wait to see if the device had an effect on King Acorn.
Sally decides to stay with her father as Doctor Quack returns to his office.
(Flashback.) Sonic and Sally are little kids, and they're arguing
over something. King Acorn tries to break up the fight, so the two kids
say that they were just playing. Warlord Julian (now known as Robotnik)
appears, and King Acorn tells the kids to leave. King Acorn tells Julian
that tonight there will be a reception to announce Julian's new position
as Minister of Science. He also tells Julian to begin dismantling the
military at once. King Acorn then leaves the room, and Julian tells
Snively to prepare the troops. Soon Sonic and Sally see new robots.
Sonic says that it as if the war is beginning again. Julayla says they
must go to the palace and find Rosie. Meanwhile, Julian has his robots
surround King Acorn. He says that the city of Mobotropolis is now known
as Robotropolis. Swatbots have attacked the kingdom, preventing the
chances of somebody fighting back. Julian explains that a resistance
group could form if the king was still there. After saying that his
new name is Robotnik, he banishes King Acorn to the Zone of Silence.
Part Two:
Geoffrey St. John walks into the room, and Sally embraces him. Sonic
acts like he is going to be sick. Doctor Quack returns to check on
the king and says if Sonic is really sick he must leave. Sally says
that something is upsetting her father. Boasting about his training
and available technology, Doctor Quack says he will figure out what is wrong.
Sonic pretends to be surprised, so Sally scolds him and says Doctor Quack
is known for his veterinary science work. King Acorn appears to be
in a daze, but he is unable to respond.
(Flashback.) Robotnik says he must restore order from chaos and shows King
Acorn the roboticizer, a device that turns living creatures into robots.
Angered by Robotnik's actions, King Acorn swears that he will stop Robotnik.
Robotnik orders for the portal to open and tells King Acorn that this is the Zone
of Silence. He then tells King Acorn to give Ixis, the inventor of the zone,
and former Warlord Kodos
his regards. King Acorn is thrown into the portal and says he will get Julian
for this.
King Acorn screams, and Doctor Quack explains that he is having a nightmare.
The more the king tries to remember the past, the more painful it is.
Doctor Quack shows everyone his Electro-Encellographic Memory Inducer, or
Dream Watcher for short. The device allows two people to communicate
in a Dream Zone. However, whoever makes the journey to visit the person
in the Dream Zone may not regain consciousness. Doctor Quack asks
for volunteers and immediately Sonic, Tails, Sally, and Geoffrey raise their
hands. Geoffrey St. John tosses a coin and calls heads. The coin
falls on tails, so Sonic wins. Doctor Quack tries to get Sonic to sign
a waiver in case something happens, but he tries to act like it is a joke
when Sally yells at him. As Doctor Quack connects Sonic to the device,
he tells Sonic to remember that if things get bad, there's no place like
home.
Part Three:
King Acorn is surprised to see Sonic, Sir Charles' nephew. Sonic is surprised
at how he feels, just like when he was trapped in a virtual reality environment
(in Sonic the Hedgehog #16). Suddenly Warlord
Kodos appears and attacks King Acorn. Sonic tries to save him, but he is
zapped by something. A large creature named Feist
appears. Feist says that this is his domain. Warlord Kodos decides
to attack Feist, who shoots lasers from his eyes. Warlord Kodos disappears
in a cloud of smoke. Sonic tells King Acorn that this is not real; this
is only one of King Acorn's memories. Sonic continues, explaining that King
Acorn was rescued and is now crystallizing in front of the freedom fighters.
After King Acorn realizes that Sonic doesn't really exist, he understands that
Feist is just a memory. To King Acorn's surprise, Feist disappears.
King Acorn asks what Robotnik has done, so Sonic explains how the citizens of
Mobius have been roboticized. The ones that were able to escape created
Knothole and now fight against Robotnik's polluted world. Sonic says that
they have had small victories, but they really need King Acorn to lead them and
be a father to Sally. King Acorn agrees and Sonic disappears.
Sonic regains consciousness, and Rotor says that King Acorn has stabilized.
Doctor Quack moves King Acorn to the rehabilitation ward as Sally congratulates
Sonic.
Sonic-Grams highlights:
~ As far as Sonic knows, Tails doesn't have a brother
~ Rotor might have his own mini-series if he ever leaves the lab
~ Sally is half squirrel, half chipmunk, but who knows what Antoine
is
~ Sally was pink in the first few issues because she was having a
"bad hair day"
