Part I:
The freedom fighters watch Sonic play ping-pong by himself and wait for him to finish.  Sonic is ready for action, but he doesn't know what has become of Robotnik.

Robotnik lands on Skoal Island and reveals that he is looking for a large creature.  Through a flashback to his days as a graduate student, he tells about a giant robot that he built.  When the robot was given life, it ran away.  Robotnik searched for the robot, but finally gave up.  Now Robotnik has the clues to the robot's whereabouts, and King Gong (a giant robotic ape) appears.  Robotnik is excited and knows that the robot will want to eat Sonic.

Part II:
Sonic packs for a picnic, while Robotnik unloads King Gong into Robotropolis.  Robotnik gives the gorilla bananas and tells it to go after Sonic.  King Gong runs to the Great Forest and interrupts the picnic.  Sally gets mad and kicks the robot's foot.  Sonic picks Sally up and runs away, not noticing that the gorilla has fallen in love with Sally.  King Gong flicks Sonic, who flies many feet away.  By the time Sonic rushes back, Sally is gone.  Tails, Antoine and Sonic board a plane and catch up to King Gong.

King Gong takes Sally to the top of the Trans-Mobius Trade Center and shows her the sunset.  Sally says that it's sweet, but she already has a boyfriend.  Sonic appears, and King Gong thinks that Sonic is a banana.  He tries to hit the plane, and Sonic tries to hit King Gong.  Antoine flies to the plane to catch Sonic.  Changing plans, Tails flies and rescues Sally.  Sonic uses a super soaker to shoot the tower.  King Gong loses his grip and falls to the ground.  Robotnik mourns over the pile of parts, while Sonic admits that he goes "ape" over Sally.
