Seeking answers to their questions, Julie-Su and Knuckles tried to find Archimedes and discovered that he and the Chaotix were missing. Soon they realized that they are up against two enemies, and one is more powerful than expected.

As Knuckles spins around in space, he knows he's facing his most dangerous enemy. Once a scientist named Dimitri, Enerjak has the energy of eleven Chaos Emeralds. Enerjak tells Knuckles he will pay for being the descendent of echidnas with misguided beliefs. Knuckles' ancestors could never understand the powers possessed by Enerjak, including the ability to appear at the moon and give Knuckles air to breathe. Knuckles recalls how Enerjak was defeated earlier (in Knuckles the Echidna mini-series #3). Enerjak decides to show Knuckles his power again, and Knuckles finds himself underwater.

Kragok tells Julie-Su they thought they would never find her again. To his surprise, Dimitri was the one that found her with Knuckles. Julie-Su explains that being with the guardian just happened to be convenient for her, and they almost always fought each other (Julie-Su is slightly changing the events from Knuckles the Echidna #4). She was using Knuckles to find the Dark Legion. Kragok says he will believe Julie-Su since she is one of his finest soldiers. Julie-Su leaves Kragok's tent and walks among the soldiers. To her surprise, she feels like a stranger rather than at home. Julie-Su spots an officer and tells Sergeant Rykor that she is resuming her post. Rykor threatens Julie-Su if he even doubts her loyalty. Julie-Su pushes Rykor aside, ready to resume her duties.

Lara-Le appears in Constable Remington's office and asks if he can contact the Guardian Locke. Remington is surprised and asks if Lara-Le's son is the current guardian.

Remington remembers how his predecessor warned him not to get involved with the personal life of the guardians. Lara-Le again pleads with Remington to contact Locke.

Knuckles manages to avoid a shark, but a sea creature grabs Knuckles and tries to eat him.

At Haven, Locke regains consciousness. Hawking remains in a coma. Before Locke can explain what happened, an alarm sounds, and Locke and his father run to another room. On a monitor they see Julie-Su with the Dark Legion, but they cannot find Knuckles. Locke's father realizes that the Dark Legion is going to strike Echidnaopolis.

Knuckles fights the sea creature and manages to reach the surface. After taking a deep breath, Knuckles realizes that Enerjak is there waiting for him.

The Chaotix see Julie-Su, and Vector knows he was right not to trust her. A Dark Legion soldier approaches Vector and tells him to be quiet. Vector jumps up and knocks the guard unconscious. Vector turns around and sees a familiar figure and a gun shoots a gas that puts everyone to sleep. Kragok compliments Julie-Su on her work and tells her to finish of the Chaotix.

Knuckles is now around 30,000 meters above the Floating Island. Knuckles is freezing, but he still tries to joke about his situation. Enerjak is furious and sends Knuckles to the ground. As Knuckles falls, he starts to glide.

Archimedes and Deo grasp their situation as the orb that they are inside is placed into a container by Kragok. The container is placed in the ground and buried. Deo tells Archimedes to remain calm since they have been in worse situations.

Knuckles quickly falls to the ground and is stopped before he reaches the rocky surface. Enerjak tells Knuckles that this is his final chance to submit to him. Knuckles touches the ground with his hand and sticks his tongue out at Enerjak. Enerjak is furious and uses his powers to take Knuckles apart at a molecular level.
