(Introduction page)
Knuckles now knows that he comes from a long line of guardians and he is
no longer the last of his species. With the help of his friend Archimedes,
Knuckles is facing problems that were never resolved in the past.
Searching within the light of a Chaos Emerald, a voice finds Dimitri and
guides him back to the Floating Island. Meanwhile, the Dark Legion
is holding a meeting. Kragok dedicates a state to Dimitri for inspiration.
Suddenly the statue crumbles, and Enerjak appears. Enerjak picks up
the head of the statue and is pleased with it. Kragok asks if Enerjak
knew Dimitri. Enerjak tells Kragok to remove his faceplate.
Once the faceplate is removed, Kragok realizes that Enerjak is Dimitri.
Enerjak tells the Dark Legion that they are his army and they are now going
to strike at the one that will deny them.
At another location of the Floating Island, Julie-Su sees Knuckles sitting
on the edge of a cliff and asks if she can talk to him. Knuckles explains
that he has something in common with Sonic since both of their parents kept
information from them. Knuckles continues to say that everyone seems
to be hiding things from him.

Knuckles tells Julie-Su that things were easier when he just had to guard
the Chaos Emerald and make sure that everyone on the island was fine.
Julie-Su tells Knuckles that at least he had friends. Everywhere Julie-Su
goes, people stare or avoid her. All she wants to do is find where
her family used to live. Knuckles decides to find Archimedes and ask
him what to do.
Archimedes talks with his grandfather, who tells Archimedes that he must
warn Knuckles. Suddenly the image of Enerjak's head appears.
He suspends the two fire-ants in motion so that they cannot disappear.
General Stryker addresses the echidna council to discuss the housing situation
for the dingoes. One councilor explains that there is no proof that
the echidnas can trust the dingoes. Stryker then asks her what he
can do to please her. Councilor Darwin tells Stryker if the dingoes
dispose of their weapons then the relationship between the echidnas and
dingoes will improve. Stryker promises that he will do that as long
as the needs of the dingoes are met. However, the council does not
see that Stryker's fingers are crossed behind his back.
Knuckles explains to Julie-Su that they are in a part of the Lava Reef
Zone that does not get visitors. He then moves some tiny bushes and
finds a fire-ant. A fire-ant appears and Knuckles asks where he can
find Archimedes. The fire-ant says that he is worried since nobody
has heard from Archimedes and Deo Valente in a while. Julie-Su asks
if the Dark Legion is responsible, and the fire-ant says that it is probably
someone more powerful. Knuckles says the only one more powerful would
be far away from the Floating Island. The fire-ant tells Knuckles to
watch his back as he leaves.
Lara-Le knows she has to do something about Knuckles since she is convinced
he thinks she did not want him. Wynmacher comforts Lara-Le and tells
her that she was young and didn't realize she was basically marrying into
echidna royalty. Lara-Le decides that she should finally talk to Locke.
Julie-Su is shocked by the colors found in the Rainbow Valley. Knuckles
makes his way to a tree, which is Espio's home. To Julie-Su's surprise,
Knuckles climbs up an invisible ladder. Once inside the house, Knuckles
realizes that something bad has happened.
Locke watches over Grandfather Hawking as his father tells him to get to
sleep. Locke's father tells him that the lack of sleep means he is
not at peak proficiency. A monitor begins to beep, and Locke realizes
that Hawking is having a heart attack. Hawking is so weak that the
instruments could kill him, so Locke decides to mentally contact Hawking.
Locke places his right hand on his hand and his left on Hawking's head.
Inside of Hawking's mind, Locke hears Hawking say that he is going to the
great beyond. Locke says that Hawking can still live even though Hawking
feels that he has done enough in his lifetime. Locke's father calls
out Locke's name, but Locke does not respond.
Julie-Su uses a rope to climb a mountain and helps herself onto the cliff.
Knuckles looks at Mighty's house, knowing that something has also happened.
Kragok passes by some of the Dark Legion and goes into a tent to talk to
Enerjak. Enerjak glows a shade of green and tells Kragok he will soon
activate his trap on Knuckles.
Knuckles and Julie-Su study the inside of Mighty's house. Julie-Su
says she'd rather be Knuckles' enemy. Knuckles replies he doesn't
know if Julie-Su is his enemy and then notices something on the ground.
After saying goodbye to Julie-Su, Knuckles jumps off of the cliff and begins
to glide. Julie-Su runs after Knuckles and grabs onto his legs.
A mammoth-looking figure watches the two as they glide, ready for some fun.
Knuckles lands on the ground and walks forward. A blast sends Knuckles
and Julie-Su backwards and a green glow appears. Knuckles yells that
he's not afraid of Dimitri. A giant Enerjak appears, and Knuckles
tells Julie-Su to run. Julie-Su asks where she can run, and Enerjak
explains that she knows that their situation is grim. Enerjak tells
Knuckles that he could learn something from Julie-Su if he had the time
and grabs Knuckles.
