Each
student will receive a photograph of a place, taken from the internet/magazine,
etc… The students will write down
different characteristics of their place, then discuss with the class. We will discuss that some characteristics of
a place are “human” while some are “physical.”
As we discuss these characteristics, we will create a class chart with
different characteristics on it, separated into human and physical
characteristics.
Then
we will discuss characteristics of their own community, such as temperature,
scenery, buildings, etc… We will then
discuss some important characteristics of a place, and how they can define a
community.
With
a partner, students will discuss the human and physical characteristics we
discussed as a class. They will use
their own photographs from earlier to discuss these characteristics.
We
will end the day by making a suitcase for the “trip” we will begin tomorrow.
