 |
| Most wolves live in packs that range from 8 to fifteen member packs. each pack has an alpha male and female, usually the most powerfull male in the pack and female. the pack is led by these two individuals. the next rank in the pack are the beta wolves. these are essentally the second in commands. the chain of command continues in this way. this sturcture is shown in all aspects of the pack. the wolves will feed off of a kill in order of rank. wolf packs will mark their treitory much like dogs. a packs teritory can range from 6 to 600 miles. this depends on the size of the pack and the ammount of prey avalable. ocasionally a wolf will leave its pack to find a mate and start a new pack.. wolves usually howl to send out signals such as to find their pack or to let others know they are there. the myth that wolves howl at the moon comes from the fact that they are usually active at night. most of the time only the alpha pair will mate. durring this time the alpha female is in charge. the pack will take care of the pups as a unit, they kind of are the packs pups instead of just the mother's. pups are usually born in litters of 4 to 6 pups. they are born blind and deaf. wolf pups spend their first few weeks of life inside of a den. young wolves depend on the pack for food untill they are 7 to 8 eight months old. |
