the current currency of the galapagos is the U.S. dollar. this happened when Ecuador changed its currency to the dollar, the main income in the galapagos is currently tourism. this is due to the fact that the galapagos is currently a national park and is full of a wide variety of wildlife. since the galapagos is a national park and it is illegal to harvest many of the islands natural recources. another major source of income is fishing. in the 17th and 18th century the islands were used as a place to resupply on food and water for whalers and pirates. agriculture also generates some income but it is very limited due to the lack of space.
