Shienar is the name of a kingdom in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series of books, located on the frontier of civilization, defending humanity against the evils that seek to invade the land. Having been adapted to the storyline of the Dagorhir Chapter of Taurendor, the kingdom of Shienar serves a very similar role as is portrayed in the the Wheel of Time novels. Originally known as the Rangers of Taurendor, a resistance force created as a reaction to hordes of darkness that began taking over the realm, our numbers have grown over time and as a result we have begun to realize a broader and more unified vision. As the kingdom of Shienar, we are the stalwart defenders of the land, the guardians of the realm and its people, and will do anything in our power to ensure that death comes to any who would seek to impose their rule over Taurendor.
Because the realm of Taurendor is in a constant state of war between the different tribes of the land as well as invaders from afar, the struggle to survive affects every aspect of a Shienaran warrior's life and thoughts. Ask any what three things he values the most, and he will almost certainly answer the following: Peace - because he has known only war; Beauty - because war is filled with ugliness; Life, above all - because he has already sworn himself to death.
The soldiers of Shienar are a mixed breed, with different histories and characterizations, but with a unifying sense of love for Taurendor and a willingness to die defending their land. As such, they enter combat as one military force, flying a banner of brown and dark green with a black hawk emblazoned on the center. Each person is encouraged to maintain their own sense of individuality, portraying different aspects of their backgrounds with specific garb, as long as they display the colors of Shienar (green, brown, and black) in some way. All members have the opportunity to purchase their own tabard, which they can personalize in ways that represent their specific characterizations and to show any honors they have earned. Belt flags will also be worn by all members of Shienar, to show unit loyalty, and will be decorated to show rank within the kingdom. Shields may be personalized in any way desired, to represent a coat of arms or any character-specific symbols or designs.

New members will be provided with loaner equipment and garb until they can either purchase or make their own, and will be expected to attend both unit gatherings as well as official Taurendor events as much as possible. They will also be taught the rules and trained in any combat style they prefer, and we have a testing and ranking system in place to help guide all members as they progress in skill.
