PBA lineups here; ShellChem gets 5 amateur players
by Ernesto Gonzales

Five of the 11 amateur players drafted from the pool went to Shell Chemicals Inc. yesterday assuring the newest member of the Philippine Basketball Association a competitive lineup when the 1985 season opens March 3 at the University of Life gym in Pasig.

Shell picked up Santiago Cabatu, Romeo Ang, Meynardo Jubinal, Leovino Austria, and Manuel Marquez and coach Freddie Webb said they were all he needed to support the remaining Redmanizers the team absorbed when it bought the Crispa franchise recently.

Webb also announced that he had decided instead to keep Philip Cezar with William Adornado whom Great Taste had wanted to trade for Cezar, expressing preference to join a team with strong title chances.

Tanduay picked up Ramon dela Cruz, Beer Hausen drafted Aldo Perez and Ranulfo Robles. Gilbey's chose Rey Perez, Great Taste opted for Leandro Isaac and Gold Eagle chose Teodocio Alfarero.

Rules calls for the teams to offer the drafted players at least one year contract worth P5,000 a month.

The draft all but finalized the roster of teams, leaving open only the slots for imports.

Aside from Adornado, the only crack player still in limbo is Willie Generalao of Gilbey's Gin. Tandua team manager Johnny Jose said no less than Gilbey's owner Honeyboy Palanca, the PBA president, had promised to transfer Generalao to the Rhum Makers but moaned the fact that this has yet to be done.
