Shell Toastmasters

Meeting Format

Home

Each meeting has usually the following components:
  1. Introductions (everybody introduces themselves).

  2. Agenda changes.

  3. Formal speech (if any).

  4. Table topics (these are unrehearsed questions that are designed to be
responded to as a small speech. The aim is to think on your feet).

  5. Evaluations (all speeches are evaluated and critiqued).

  6. Timer Report (all speeches are timed).

  7. Ah-counter/Grammarian report (we monitor for ah's and uhm's in our speeches, and other grammar faults).

  8. General evaluation of the meeting.

All the roles are rotated so that each person has a chance to speak, as much as possible. The general aim is to improve every time.

If there is a prepared speech during the meeting, each member is provided with an evaluation form which they can fill in and give to the speaker. In this form you can list what you thought were the strong points of the speech and list any points for improvement. These mini evaluations provide valuable feedback to the speaker so that they can continue to improve their speaking skills.
