Intro
It's Been a Long, Cold Wordless Winter...
I feel compelled to use this space to apologize to the half-dozen regular readers I used to have for this page, since this is
the first time I've updated it in five months. After the usual year-end rush, I worked on a pair of endeavours that kept
me busy for the last four months. One is still ongoing, albeit on a monthly rather than a weekly basis: I'm now the host
of Songwriters' Saturdy at Havana Hideout, the Lake Worth hang-out spot recently featured on the Food Network's
"Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives". The other came to fruition on Saturday, April 25th: Inspirit Idol, a fund-raising karaoke
competition, was held at the Players Club in Wellington. I was part of the planning committee for this event which was
intended to be the major fund-raiser for Ginny Meredith's music non-profit Inspirit, an organization on which I wrote a
lengthy article in the previous issue of Type M.The inaugural edition of Inspirit Idol was very well-attended, so hopefully
it brought in a decent sum for a very worthy cause.
But as satisfying as my involvement in these projects has been, I have missed working on Type M and its sister blog,
The Music Type, so it has been nice to have them both active again. The Music Type was revived a few weeks ago,
with posts on a Bill Meredith write-up of my songwriters' night, Inspirit Idol and a review of the latest CD by a Boca
garage-rock band called The Pretty Faces. Get used to reading that name, as The Pretty Faces are one of the bands I
plan to see at Sunfest and a short article on them appears below.
So now that both my webpage and blog are back in business, maybe I can win one or two of those six regular readers
back. Let's go -- again...
