Intro
Twelve Months On, We're Still Typing
It's been a year since this site entered the world of Internet music journalism, adding a small voice to the cacaphony of online commentary. While I haven't achieved everything yet that I hope to do here, I've certainly received enough encouragement from various sources to make me want to do more in Year 2. If you the reader have any specific comments, feel free to use the e-mail address listed below. Also, coming soon to the Wordpress site will be a companion blog called The Music Type as another channel for your feedback, in addition to providing you a more timely channel for articles in between issues. So as Elton John would say "I'm still standing, better than I ever did", and hopefully you the reader will continue to think of that as a good thing...

This issue contains a report on the recent edition of Sunfest, West Palm Beach's premiere music and art festival. Enjoy...

Sheldon's Sunfest Diary 2008
[Writer's note: Sunfest being a five-day festival with three main stages, it is physically impossible for one person to report on every single one of its concerts. This, therefore, is one man's impressions of the shows (or portions thereof) that he viewed, with a few notes about the shows he missed and where you the reader can find more information about them]
Wed. April 30th Opening Night

Unfortunately, my other job (i.e. the one that pays the bills) kept me out of town this day, meaning not only did I not see anything of Sheryl Crow or Parliament/Funkadelic, I also missed out on the surprise appearance of one of Ms. Crow's most famous ex-boyfriends, Eric Clapton, during her performance. Needless to say, this night didn't suck, and you can read more about it in the Palm Beach Post review

With A Little Help From My Friends

On the occasion of this site's first anniversary, it seems appropriate to mention certain people who made a point of getting the word out about this website:

- In his Oct. 5th column in the Palm Beach Post TGIF magazine, my friend
Bill Meredith profiled me and this website:

Sheldon Robertson is a software engineer by day, but the Lantana-based singer/songwriter has blended his daytime expertise with his part-time evening pursuits through his new Web site, Type M for Music.

Robertson complies views, news and reviews relating to everything musical -- from the local acts he rubs elbows with at open mikes to rumors about international artists.

-
My friend Christine Stay is the lead singer for the band Friction Farm, whose CDs I've reviewed over the years, including one in the inaugral edition of this site. In a message to the group's mailing list, Christine put in a plug for my site (and a challenge for me):

Talented friend of the week: Sheldon Robertson... we think of him mostly as a songwriter, but he is also a music reviewer who has written lots of CD reviews for CityLink Magazine in Florida.  He's started his own web site - check out www.typemformusic.com and make him keep it current.

-
Delta Groove, the record label for blues act Jason Ricci & New Blood, included my review of their latest CD in its electronic press kit

- I have a friend in the northeast (known online as
kbort) who's a big reggae enthusiast. She posted the Stephen Marley concert review I wrote for the Jan. issue into a Melody Makers mailing list

- And last but not least: who says you can't make friends in the blogosphere? girlofwords, blogger, editor and online talk-show host, has added a link to my website on her WordPress blog, "On air.Online. On demand"   (She also included a nice mouse-over comment with the link.) While her blog does not have a music focus per se, her whimsical writing always holds the reader's interest. Also, her taste in music is impeccable, so any posts or comments on the subject are usually worthwhile perusing...

Thanks to all the above (and unnamed others) for helping to bring a wider audience to this website. Looking forward to continuing to ?entertain and inform TMFM readers in Year 2...
