Fog on the Barrow-Downs
"A low door-like opening appeared at the end of the chamber beyond Frodo's feet; and there was Tom's head (hat, feather, and all) framed against the light of the sun rising red behind him."
-The Fellowship of the Ring, Book One,
Chapter VIII: Fog on the Barrow-downs
The front, back and top view of my Fog on the Barrow-downs diorama.
Tom Bombadil lives near the Old Forest and the Barrow-downs, and is the master of all that land. He helped the hobbits in both occasions, most notably when they were trapped inside a barrow. That moment I tried to capture with this diorama.
Tom Bombadil and Goldberry.
The models used are all those from the Fog on the Barrow-downs boxed set, minus two of the four Barrow Wights. The base is a 20x20 cm hardboard plate, and the barrow is made from styrofoam, the cheap kind you can get at any florist/garden centre. Once the paint dries it's hard as a brick, and it's very easy to use, as you can rub it down with your fingers (which is how I got the smooth sides).

Tom was painted with a Regal Blue jacket and Desert Yellow boots. His skin is Dwarf Flesh drybrushed with Elf Flesh.

Goldberry's dress was painted Ice Blue, heavily drybrushed with several lighter layers to Skull White, and then washed a bit with Green Ink in the crevices. Her hair is Snakebite Leather drybrushed with Desert Yellow.
