Krishnanagar Government College was born on the first day of 1846.It is the oldest college
in the district.The land covering 100 bighas (3bighas=1 acre app),was donated by the Rajas of Krishnanagar.
The first principal was Mr.D.L.Richardson and among the first batch of teachers were Ramtanu Lahiri
& Madan Mohan Tarkalankar -- the flag bearers of Bengal renaissance.The Gothic architecture
of the college continues to draw reverence of the inmates & visitors.Today the college is
under the control of Kalyani University & awards Bachelor and Master degrees in Science & Arts subjects.
