About Queer As Folk
Showtimes new television series Queer As Folk is based on the short lived 1999 British drama of the same name. Though the original series only lasted eight episodes with a two hour finale, the show had such spark and fantastic potential that it had to be recreated by Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman for the American audience.
The series follows the ups and downs of three gay men, Michael, Brian and Justin. Delightful and tragic moments ensue, with supporting characters like the flamboyant Emmett Honeycutt, the intelligent Ted Schmidt, the romantic Dr. David Cameron and Michaels overly supportive mother, Debbie.
Sharon Gless used the role of Debbie for her return to television. She came back wearing a waitress apron and her heart on her sleeve. This role is so different from every role she every played. She is seen as colorful old lady sometimes overloaded with protest buttons. She hates prejudice against gays and lesbians, because her son Michael is gay and searching for big love. Debbie just wants to help him finding it. Debbie is funny, loud and loving and wants nothing but the best for everyone around her.
About Sharon Gless As Debbie Novotny
Christine Cagney is over. Rosie O'Neill is out. Now it's Debbie Novotny who is in. Sharon Gless changed from heartbreaking police cop over heartaching public defender to heart-warming pflag mom.
And she is wonderful as ever.
