Resignation
This is a simple, beautiful tune with the text a metered wording of Psalm 23. My source for this tune and text does not indicate the poet, but according to the notes on Anonymous 4's album "American Angels: Songs of Hope, Redemption, & Glory", they state it was written by Isaac Watts in 1719. The tune "Resignation" is at least as old as 1828, with this arrangement being published in 1854.
I have done this as a special (singing solo) in church, singing tenor (melody) for the first and third verses and the soprano line (high harmony) for the second verse. This arrangement worked well, and the tune and words are easy enough to learn that a few weeks later I was able to sing it acapella from memory.
