Elvis bought Graceland in 1957. Graceland was named after the niece of the original owner, S.E. Toof. Graceland was Elvis� refuge from the pressures of performing and the crush of the media. Elvis is buried in the Meditation Garden behind the mansion.
Today, Graceland is a major tourist attraction for the Memphis area. Fans from all over the world come to visit it each year. The mansion is also on the National Registry of Historical Places. Also, each year on the anniversary of Elvis� death, fans attend the annual candle light vigil. In late Spring of 2006, Graceland was designated a National Landmark.
