What is a healthy diet?
A healthy diet is low in fat, particularly saturated fat, and high in starch and fibre such as oats, bran, rice, potatoes, lentils, beans and pasta as well as fresh fruit and vegetables. Protein plays a vital role in a healthy, balanced diet and can be found in many foods including meat, fish, dairy products, eggs and cereals.
For example,a pregnant women would need particular foods that are rich in iron (lean red meat), calcium (dairy products, fish with bones (e.g. sardines, anchovies) and folic acid.
Simple guidelines for a healthy diet
Cut down on fat - excessive amounts of saturated fat can lead to high cholesterol and increased risk of heart disease, not to mention weight gain!
Reduce intake of sugar - this is one of the easiest ways to cut the calories without losing other nutrients in your diet.
Try to steam, bake or grill foods instead of frying them even if you prefer them to be fried.
Use yoghurt instead of cream and use semi-skimmed or skimmed milk products instead of full fat
How do you distinguish organic product?
The certified organic labels are certainly not labeled in every product. The ones that has labels means that the producer followed the following rules:
1. They did not use any synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers to grow crops or feed for animals.
2. They did not use crop or feed that had been genetically modified.
3. The product are taken care in a great level.(treating them humanely)
