This monument built by Emperor Shahjahan of the Great Mughal Dynasty for his beloved Queen MumtazMahal, is in great danger of environmental pollution. The atmosphere, filled with the emotions of the Great Emperor, the river Jamuna on the banks of which this Wonder of the World , the sands of the banks of this river, sole and mute witnesses of the Emperor's love for his Begum, are in the grip of industrial pollution, overall dusty atmosphere of the city and threats from high velocity winds from the deserts of the nearby state. It has been reported that leakage of water , cracks in the veneer stones, loss of inlay pieces and lack of cohesion in the mortar have been noticed.
