Matilda

Introduced as just one of the girls, Matilda quickly distinguishes herself from the rest of the natives of Koholint. Whereas most are content with their placid lives in deep isolation, Matilda is a dreamer, anxious to explore the world beyond the shores.

A bit of a tomeboy, Matilda wields a hookshot with expert skill and frequently uses it when coming to Link's rescue. Just where she learned her fighting skills remains a bit of a mystery, but Matilda is always there to lend a hand.

As the story progresses, a darker side to Matilda's longing to explore the outside world emerges when a mysterious Voice starts speaking to her. The Voice plays upon her desires, twisting them and manipulating them. Matilda, ever the warrior, fights against these dark impulses, knowing that they're wrong.

As a descendent of the original Guardian of the Catfish's Maw, Matilda is, technically speaking, the Guardian of Catsy's domain. Viewing the Nightmares as evil creatures, Matilda has denied her lineage and chosen to live outside of the dungeon. She fears Catsy and wants to leave the island to get away from her duties to her.
