The Legend of Zelda The Legend of Zelda is a fantasy RPG (role playing game) created for the Nintendo video gaming systems. The first game came out in 1986, created by Shigeru Miyamoto. Since the original release, many sequels have been produced, each contributing to the legends and mythology surrounding the fictional kingdom of Hyrule. Gameplay involves the player controlling one character, usually named Link. Throughout the series, Link goes on various quests, usually battling against the evil Ganon (sometimes called Ganondorf) to rescue Princess Zelda or to protect a mystical artifact known as The Triforce which allows the bearer to make a wish that will last either until they die or until someone else manages to claim the Triforce. The world of Hyrule itself is rich with mythology. The Hylian people - who resemble elves - worship three goddesses, the Goddess of Power (Din), the Goddess of Wisdom (Nayru), and the Goddess of courage (Farore). In some games, the Hylian race is subdivided into several different distinct species known as Sheikah, Gerudo, Zora, Goron, and Kokiri.
