Purpose The San Mateo Country Sheriff's Office sponsors Explorer Post #830 to provide a meaningful training and practical experience in the area of search and rescue and emergency services for high school aged young adults. Teenagers can also receive scholarships for being involved with this program. For more information, visit this site. - Build individual character - Develop leadership skills and potential - Gain appreciation for community service - Develop good citizenship Objectives Through a national charter with the Exploring Division of the Learning for Life Career Education Program, provide a youth program that teaches young adults emergency skills as well as leadership and responsibility. Teach young people search and rescue, and emergency service skills that will be useful to themselves and to the community. Organize the trained members of the program into an operational search and rescue unit available to assist the Sheriff's Office, on a 24 hour call out basis, with search and rescue and other related emergency operations. |
