As many of you already know, I have been working on a personal project for the last 8-10 weeks.  It has taken up a great deal of my time and has played greatly on my emotions.  The project is finally finished and I thought that I would pass along a photo of the finished version.  The photo is not the best of quality but you can at least get an idea of what the final presentation board (40" x 30") looked like.  Since the text is not clear, I have also attached the word file of the text.

For those of you who have not heard about me doing this project I will tell you a little about it.  One Sunday I was reading the paper and came across a small article about a design competition for a memorial to be built honouring the Pentagon victims of 11 September.  I was in a very relaxed mood and started daydreaming.  "If" I was to do this what would my tribute be?  Since I had a friend that died in the Pentagon, it was a close personal issue for me and I was able to lose myself in the project.  That Sunday, I came up with 5 or 6 abstract ideas and did some drawings with notes.  Sunday evening I set the sketchbook aside and went to bed.  Monday morning the ideas were still churning in my mind and I spent the next week just playing , revising and fantasizing with the ideas.   After about three weeks of narrowing down all of the original ideas into one, I began showing what I came up with to friends, asking for their opinions on the idea.  With all for their support and input, I decided to enter the competition.  I decided that if I was going to do this, I would do it right.  I took all of my research, ideas, drawings, etc., to a computer layout studio and had them produce the presentation poster.  I also has a piece of glass engraved to attach to the poster.  At the end of last week, all individual parts were complete and I constructed the final version that was sent to Washington DC.

I did not enter this competition with the thought of "winning".  I entered the competition with the idea of honouring and remembering a friend lost on that day.   The whole experience has just been amazing.  I have spent many hours researching and learning.  It has also changed my feeling on many things and brought many things into a new perspective.  There were times while working on this project that I did not want to be around people and there were times where I needed to have people near.

This has been a great experience for me and I want to thank all that have supported me throughout.

With love, hugs and good thoughts,

Pentagon Memorial Finalists  (e-mail)

Hello Everyone,
As you can see by the title of this mail, the finalist have been announced for the Pentagon Memorial Competition.  Yesterday at a news conference at 1:30pm EDT the six finalists were announced.  Unfortunately the entry that I submitted was not included in the six.  I do not bring you this news with disappointment but rather with a new excitement.  Below is a link to the web page where the complete documentation for the project is located.  Please take a look.  Some of the designs are very interesting and exciting and I think that you will enjoy having a look.  Unfortunately, we are not able to make out and read the text of the projects which I believe would bring a better understanding of each project.  Hopefully they will add that later.

If you would like to take another look at the entry that I submitted just go to my homepage and look under the topic Interesting Links

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you that have supported me through the whole experience.  Your support has been overwhelming and unexpected.  Even though I was not selected as a finalist in this competition, I still feel as if I have won in a bigger way.

I have learned much about myself.  I now know that if you believe in something strong enough, allows follow through.  The end result is not what counts it is the journey that is important.  It is amazing to me what this project has done for me personally and it has brought to me a new joy and appreciation for life.
Last but not least, I hope that each and every one of you have also learned and grown through the tragic events that transpired last year.  I believe that in order to move on, we must remember, learn, grow and appreciate what we have at any given time.

Thanks once again for giving me the opportunity to share this with you all.

With love and good thoughts,
Mike
