Patricia Statz

MARYLAND - Patricia Statz, 41, of Maryland, is still missing and presumed to have died in the terrorist attack on the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001.

She was born Jan. 25, 1960, in Chippewa Falls, the daughter of JoAnn (Marek) and Vincent Statz. She attended McDonell High School and pursued a degree in Theater at UW-Eau Claire that she completed at UW-Stevens Point in 1983. She traveled to Germany a year later to work as an actress and director at U.S. Army base theaters in Heidelberg and Bamberg.

Patricia married David Carroll on July 3, 1989, in Bamberg. Pat and David made many close friends with their neighbors and co-workers in Germany and were 'adopted' by a local German family because their own families were so far away in Wisconsin and Texas. Pat traveled extensively across Europe and enjoyed playing the tour guide on many visits from family and friends. She also obtained a Masters in Education while in Germany. After living there for 17 years, Pat and her family decided to move back to the States. They bought a house in Tacoma Park, Maryland and Pat started work at the Pentagon.

She is survived by her husband, David Carroll, and two sons, Daniel and Erick, all of Maryland; her parents, Vincent and JoAnn (Marek) Statz of Chippewa Falls; sisters, Elizabeth (Jack) Erickson of Spring Valley, Catherine Statz of St. Paul, Minn., Sandra (Carlos Zorrilla) Statz of Otavalo, Ecuador, Nancy (Carlos) Leon of Brookfield, Diane (Jeffrey) Brostrom of Lacey, Wash., Renee (Rakesh) Sreenivasam of Eau Claire, Barbara (David) Krause of Grafton, Jacqueline (Daniel Hoerl) Statz of Middleton, Pamela Statz of San Francisco, Calif.; brothers, Timothy (Leonida) Statz of Canton, Mich., Charles (Jennifer) Statz of Wausau, Phillip Statz of Chippewa Falls; nine nieces, Heidi Erickson, Kinaya Zorrilla, Jessica and Christina Leon, Kaitlin Statz, Sara and Claire Brostrom, Robyn Sreenivasam and Emma Lee Statz; 12 nephews, Thomas Erickson, Patrick Statz-Boyer, Brian Statz, Joel and Martin Zorrilla, Miguel Leon, Benjamin and Luke Statz, Ryan Sreenivasam, Samuel and Oliver Krause and Evan Hoerl.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph and Anna Marek and Wolfgang and Elizabeth Statz.

The shocking events of Sept. 11 have touched so many lives. We feel sympathy for the families and friends of all who died in this tragedy. We will miss Pat and hope she knew how much we loved and cared for her.

A Mass in remembrance of Pat will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at St. Bridget's Church, Chippewa Falls.

Directly following the Mass, there will be a gathering at St. Bridget's Church hall for family and friends.

An Education Trust Fund has been set up for Pat and David's children. Donations can be sent to the Patricia Statz-Carroll Memorial Fund, c/o M & I Bank, P.O. Box 9, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729.
