| Private John Slagle of Missouri served in General J. O. Shelby's Iron Brigade. At the end of the War Between the States the Iron Brigade refused to surrender, buried their battle flag at the Rio Grande then crossed the river to Mexico. Private Slagle made his way to Oregon in the fall of 1865 where he lived until November 18th 1920. He is buried in Missouri Flats Cemetery in the Applegate area of Jackson county. March 4, 2002 Our camp receives its charter. We are named after the first Jackson County Confederate Veteran we have identified, Private John Slagle March 15, 2002 The Medford Mail-Tribune ran a very good article about our camp. It can be read along with a couple of letters to the editor and a guest editorial by Commander Robert K Stock in the archive section of the newspapers website. November 11, 2002 We marched in the Medford Veterans Day Parade. Many people cheered and saluted as we marched by proudly waving the Confederate Battle Flag and the 3rd National Flag. May 26, 2003 The first observance of Decoration Day at the Ashland Cemetery. Confederate Battle Flags were placed at the graves of two Confederate Veterans. We also celebrated the refurbishing of the headstone of one of these men, Private John C Praytor. January 17, 2004 The first ever Northwest Sons of Confederate Veterans Convention met in Beaverton, Oregon. Medford Camp Commander Robert K Stock presided over adoption of the SCV Oregon Division Constitution. Stock was elected Division Lt. Commander. April 15, 2004 The Medford Camp was disolved and members transfered to other Oregon SCV Camps. |
