Views from Galcier Point

Glacier Point offers some of the most magnificent views of the park. The natural beauty of the park will truly astound you, as you stand atop the 3,200-foot vertical cliff of Glacier Point. From this vantage point you will be treated to an all-encompassing view of Yosemite Valley. Also, you will see the vast expanse of the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the east and north. To reach this amazing spot, you drive up the Glacier point Road from its origin at Chinquapin on the Fresno Road. Once you reach the end of the road, only a 300-yard walk is required to reach the overlook point.

Along the sixteen-mile road to Glacier Point, there are many other rewarding hikes that you should consider taking. Here are two you should not miss.

Sentinel Dome

The view from Sentinel Dome is the second highest in the park, at 8,122 feet. As you stand on top of the dome, you will be treated to an unobstructed, 360-degree view of Yosemite Valley, which lies 4,000 feet below, and the surrounding Sierra Nevadas. This is an ideal spot for a picnic. The hike to the top is only 2.4 miles round-trip.

Taft Point and the Fissures

Taft Point is a rocky knoll that overhangs Yosemite Valley from 3,500 feet above. This spot offers spectacular views of El Capitan, Three Brothers, and Yosemite Falls. The other unique feature in this area is the Fissures. The Fissures are fractures in the overhanging cliff creating deep, narrow chasms. It is truly an exceptional experience looking straight down into one of these Fissures. This hike is 2.2 miles round-trip, with little elevation change.
