RAWALPINDI: Maqbool Bans Construction in Murree

By Our Staff Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Aug 7: The Punjab Governor Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool has banned all kinds of construction in Murree town with immediate effect, district Nazim Raja Tariq Kiani said here on Wednesday.

He said special building material and designs were being identified for construction in the popular mountain resort. "The governor has directed that the ban would remain in force till such time that the design and material are not approved by the authorities concerned", he added.

The heavy cement structures were not suited for the mountain area and had been contributing largely to the erosion problem. This had resulted in waning of Murree's beauty. He said the governor was for use of light material for construction in the area.
SCN welcomes the announcement made by Punjab Governor Lt-Gen Khalid Maqbool banning all heavy construction in Murree. It is hoped that this example would be followed by other policy makers and administrators of Hill Stations in other provinces as well.
