Bulletin

May 2004
Scleroderma Support Group Southern Alberta

June is Scleroderma Awareness Month The Scleroderma Conference, which was held on May 1, was originally planned to be a June activity, but circumstances prevented it. There are no other special events planned by our group to promote scleroderma awareness. If anyone would like to take on the task of organizing an activity for June promotions please feel free to do so.

Scleroderma Conference The Alberta Scleroderma Conference was a tremendous success with over 85 attending. Delegates came from all parts of Alberta and southeastern BC. Evaluations were all very positive. Thanks to all those who helped to organize and assist with this event. Special thanks to Kath Orr. She committed a great deal of time and effort both before and during the conference to help make this a success.

Business Meeting A brief business meeting was held prior to the Calgary support group session.
There was discussion on the following items:
  • Conference budget was approved.
  • The Scleroderma Support Group of Southern Alberta will pay for membership in the Arthritis Society.
  • The book Scleroderma: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed by Karen Gottesman has been purchased for our library. See the book review in the current issue of the STRIDES.
  • The Treasurers Report was approved.
  • It was agreed that STRIDES will be distributed only to fee paying members.
  • It was suggested that we hold a regular business meeting prior to the 1:00 pm support group meeting. Ron will look into this.

SSCs New Logo - The SSC has officially adopted a new logo. The previous one was great with a lot of meaning but very difficult to reproduce. The newer one is easily reproduced and is quite a bit cleaner looking.

SSC Annual General Meeting The SSC Annual General Meeting will be held in Richmond, BC on September 18, 2004. Be sure to see page 12 and 13 of the STRIDES for more details.

Ink Cartridge Recycling Program - Ink Cartridge recycling program continues to grow thanks to all who are involved. So far we have raised $346 for the SSC. Dont forget to continue to collect those empty ink cartridges and to encourage others to do the same. If you would like any information or have any cartridges collected, contact Grant (281-7616).

Web site The web site continues to be revamped. Hopefully the new and improved version will be up and running soon. Look for the section where you are able to access news of our group including the latest Bulletins. The web site address will still be the same at www.scleroderma.ca.

Next Meeting The June meeting for the Calgary Support group will be a lunch meeting at the Blackfoot Inn (Blackfoot Trail & 58th Ave SE) at 12:00. If you have any questions please phone Sharon Pettem at 217-2375. There are no meetings scheduled for July and August. The September meeting will be September 21, 2004 at 1:00 pm at the Scarboro United Church (134 Scarboro Ave. SW).

Hope you all enjoy a beautiful and restful summer
