Something To Think About

Christopher Reeve:
"I want to knock down the barriers to spinal cord injury research that our government erected last year. I want to tell more Americans that they can change their lives if they never give up hope. I realize these are some lofty goals. But if this year has taught us anything, it’s that nothing is impossible."

Christopher Reeve made a return to the Superman legend recently on the WB's hit TV show "Smallville".  He played Dr. Schwann, a brilliant scientist who gives the young Superman keys to his future.  Following the episode, Reeve and Welling sent out a message to audiences to support CRPF.

Christopher Reeve

Christopher Reeve was born on September 25th, 1952 in New York City.  His parents are Franklin D'Olier Reeve (novelist and creative writing professor) and Barbara Johnson (a newspaper reporter). They divorced when Christopher was about 3 years old. His mother had custody and moved Christopher and his brother (Benjamin) to Princeton, NJ and married a Stock Broker. Chris received most of his education in private school and started his acting career early on doing school plays.

He was talented in music and piano. At nine, he was hand picked to be in a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta for Princeton's professional theater, the McCarter Theatre. At 15, he got an apprenticeship in Williamstown, MA, and when 16, had an agent. In 1974, Christopher received his B.A. from Cornell University (English and Music Theory). He later attended Juilliard in NYC where he had class with such acting greats as Robin Williams. In 1978, Christopher was picked out of 200 hopefuls for the role of Superman. In 1979, he won the British Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in Superman: The Movie. During the 18 months of shooting (in England), Chris began a relationship with modeling executive Gae Exton. This relationship produced two children, Matthew and Alexandra. They never married. In 1987, Gae and Christopher separated. And during the summer in Williamstown, Christopher met Dana Morosini where she was performing a cabaret. In four months they were living together. In 1992 they were married and have one son, Will.

Christopher Reeve is involved with many charitable activities such as: The Actor's Fund of America, Special Olympics, American Paralysis Association, Save The Children Foundation, American Cancer Society, Save the Theaters, and is one of the founding fathers of the Creative Coalition.
