Traditional Sailing on board Schooner Trinovante

.About the boat....

"Trinovante" is a traditionally rigged, 3-masted gaff schooner, built of steel, measuring 70ft on deck, with a 6ft draught. The boat displaces 50 tonnes and carries 1900 sq ft of sail.

The beauty of the schooner rig is that the sail area is broken up into individual sails of a manageable size (our biggest working sail is 364 sq ft). So although there is plenty for the crew to get involved in, the boat is very easy to handle. When the wind gets up reefing is more a matter of dropping individual sails than wrestling with reefing gear amongst acres of canvas.

The comfortable accommodation for the crew consists of 2 double cabins and a communal 4-berth area which is heated in cold weather by a solid fuel stove.

Everyone has their own bunk and we usually limit crew numbers to six. There is a comfortable saloon and galley aft, where you can warm yourself by the Rayburn on chilly nights.
