Burials in Schneidemühl
13 July 1915–31 May 1939

Introduction

The following unsigned list was discovered in the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People in Jerusalem, [file rec. Nr. INV./ 947(2)], and was subsequently alphabetized, indexed and translated.
Jerusalem 1959

“Rabbi Israel Nobel, currently [living] in Jerusalem and in his 82nd year, handed me recently entries about cases of deaths in Schneidemühl and in other places in the province of Posen, where he had been acting as rabbi from 1914-1918 and where he was required to give funeral sermons.

These entries were written down on pages in various ways. These pages he then added to the book ‘Tozeoth Chaim’ by Dr. S. Baer, which his father had published 1900 in Rödelsheim [Germany] in a new edition. Often, notes are added about the texts of the funeral sermons and about the families of the deceased.

Although the records were put down in an irregular and rather casual manner, I view them as a good source for the various families, and I have transferred them here, as far as I could read and decipher them, while leaving out the sources of the sermons and with a minimum on the data about the families. I also leave the order of the records which is not chronological.”

(Note: This list contains some discrepancies in the data and in the spelling of names, when compared to the official civil death records of Schneidemühl.)
