Kinder-garten

There is no nursery in the commune. Most women are housewives and they take care of children in their early 4 years old. When children are 4 years old, they can go to kinder-garten or not. It is parents' choice. There are 2 kinder-gartens in the commune, one in each village. Three pedagogues have into care 40 children in Schela's kinder-garten. In Negrea, there are 2 pedagogues who take care of 30 children. Children go to kinder-garten between 8.00-12.00 a.m. In here they learn new games, they discover their first skills and they make preparatory exercises for school.

Starting with 6 years old, children go to school.
Each village has its own primary school.
The one from Schela has 50 pupils and the other, from Negrea, 40 pupils.
Primary school consists of 4 years of studying.
Each group of pupils has a schoolteacher who takes them into care from the first year and guides them until the fourth one.
There are 6 teachers in Schela and only 2 in Negrea. Each of them works with two groups of pupils.

Secondary school

After graduating the 4 years of primary school, children go to the next level: secondary education. This happens when they are about 10 years old. The Negrea village does not have a secondary school. Children from Negrea go to Schela secondary school. The Mayoralty provides them a minibus for transportation. The secondary school in Schela has 50 children. Twelve teachers work for them, teaching different disciplines. Two of the teachers live in the commune. The rest of them live in Galati city. They come every day to Schela with means of transportation ensured by the Mayoralty.

First option

After graduating primary and secondary school (8 years of education), children in the commune have three options:
either they go to a high-school, either to a vocational school or they remain at home, interrupting their studies and helping their parents in farming.
About 30% children aged 14 sign up yearly to high-schools(half to state high-schools and half to private high-schools).
About 40% children go to vocational schools.
The rest of 30% give up studying.
From the 30% who sign up to a high-school, the majority are girls.

High-school

There is no high-school in the commune. Most children in Schela and Negrea choose a high-school in Galati city. Depending on their aptitudes and affinities, children may choose a high-school with a specific profile: mathematics-informatics, philology, economy, arts, mechanics a.s.o. During the four years of high-school, chidren from Schela live either at boarding schools or at their relatives in the city. At the graduation, students sustain a final examination called "bac" (school-leaving examination). The "Bac" certificate allows them to access the superior educational institutions.

Vocational school

There are no vocational schools in the commune.
Children who have bents for trades or who weren't accepted into state high-schools can choose a two year vocational school.
The most accessible vocational schools for Schela children are in Galati city.
Vocational schools have also specific profiles: mechanics, electricity, constructions, woodwork a.s.o.
After graduation, apprentices receive a national vocational qualification which gives them the opportunity to find a job in the field they trained for.

Second option

After high-school graduation, children have 3 options: giving up to their studies, going to college or to university. State or private colleges suppose 2-3 years of studies, and state or private universities suppose 4-6 years of studies. High-school graduates can choose one of these options. Students with good marks during high-school usually choose state superior educational institutions. Students with financial possibilities usually choose private colleges and universities.

College. University

There aren't any statistics regarding natives in Negrea and Schela villages who graduated a university or a colllege, because most people who left to complete their studies never came back in the commune.
On the other hand, the percentage of people having superior studies that live nowadays in the commune is below 1%.
